Configuring a Cisco router involves several steps. Here are the general steps to follow:

Connect to the router: Use a console cable to connect your computer to the console port on the router. You can use a terminal emulation program like PuTTY to connect to the router.

Enter configuration mode: Enter privileged EXEC mode by typing the enable command. Then, enter global configuration mode by typing the configure terminal command.

Set a hostname: Use the hostname command to set a name for the router.

Configure interfaces: Use the interface command to enter interface configuration mode for a specific interface. Then, use commands like ip address, shutdown, and no shutdown to configure the interface.

Set passwords: Use the enable secret command to set a password for the privileged EXEC mode. Use the line vty 0 15 and line console 0 commands to set passwords for Telnet and console access, respectively.

Configure routing protocols: Use commands like router rip, router ospf, or router bgp to configure routing protocols.

Save the configuration: Use the copy running-config startup-config command to save the configuration to non-volatile memory.

Here is an example of a basic configuration for a Cisco router:

This configuration sets the hostname to Router1, configures the gigabitethernet0/0 interface with an IP address of 192.168.1.1/24, sets passwords for privileged EXEC, Telnet, and console access, configures RIP version 2, and saves the configuration to non-volatile memory.
